Jim Sturgess Fic

Peppermint and Cigarette Smoke (Working Title) // Jim Sturgess // One-Shot (unfinished)

Another beer and an "I"m Jim" later, he's dancing with a girl in a black dress.

i. Peppermint and Cigarette Smoke

The smokey room clouds his vision as the taste of alcohol burns his throad. Another, please. He remembers stumbling around in a drunken haze, and the sight of dancing girls and laughing boys remains vivid in his mind. Another beer and an “I’m Jim” later, he’s dancing with a girl in a black dress. They’re talking, but he doesn’t know what about. Perhaps about the weather, politics, personal lives. Maybe it’s just a series of incoherent words, but it doesn’t really matter anyway because the next minute, lips are crashing, hands are roaming, and he can taste her cherry red chapstick.

He remembers complimenting her on her fashionable dress once. She had smiled, “fashion is transient, but style,” she twirled, “is eternal.” That’s when he knew.

He never found out much about her, except that she worked at his coffeeshop in the back alleys of New York City. “I like coffee,” he remembers saying stupidly. She had smiled.

Jim’s heart beat in tune with the music. They’re dancing and they’re laughing and he think he’s going to deaf from the loud pouding of the guitars.

Jim doesn’t remember much about that night. He doesn’t remember her name or the color of her eyes. He only remembers that she smelled of peppermint and cigarette smoke.
